The seventh-ranked Lady Cardinal volleyball team sent its sophomores out in style in their Cardinal Gym finale Saturday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals swept Wharton in 25-13, 25-12, 25-23 fashion.

With their seventh straight win, the Lady Cardinals improved 25-5 on the season and 11-3 in Region XIV Conference.

The Lady Cardinals have two remaining road games on their regular season schedule this week. Friday, they are at Coastal Bend for a 6 p.m. match. Saturday, they are at Victoria for a 1 p.m. start.

The regional tournament is scheduled Nov. 3-5 at Lee College in Baytown. Seedings/pairings will be announced at the conclusion of the conference schedule Saturday.

Lady Cardinal sophomores Sofia Velez, Valentina Tijerina, Lorelai Hill, Zailey Moses, Mafer Cisneros Salas, Bailee Albinus, Adamari Sepulveda and Azul Pilahg were recognized before the game.

As a group, they leave a legacy by which other sophomore classes will be judged. In addition to first-ever conference and regional tournament championships with a combined 19-0 record, and eighth-place finish at the NJCAA tournament last year as freshmen, they are the winningest sophomore class with 56 wins and games remaining. The group is also attempting to become the first to qualify for back-to-back national tournaments.
