CURTAIN CLOSER: Lady Cardinals eighth at NJCAA tourney

A history-making season for the Lady Cardinals ended with an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA D1 Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The Lady Cardinals went 1-3 in the 16-team event at the West Plain Civic Center in West Plains, Mo. They fell 3-2 to No. 9 Central Wyoming in seventh-place game, giving them a 1-3 record in the three-day tournament.

The Lady Cardinals closed the year 31-11. The 31 wins match a school record for most wins in a season set by the 2014 Lady Cardinals.

The seventh-seeded Lady Cardinals opened the tournament with a 3-0 win against No. 10 New Mexico Military Institute. They then fell 3-2 to No. 2 Indian Hills and 3-0 to No. 3 Salt Lake to move into the battle for seventh place.

The Lady Cardinals were making their second national tournament appearance. The 2018 Lady Cardinals finished fifth.

Sophomore Lizanyela Lopez was named to the all-tournament team.
