THE VIEW FROM ABOVE: Lady Cardinals regain share of conference lead

Wednesday was a good day for the 12th-ranked Lady Cardinal basketball team.

The Lady Cardinals may have experienced a flat on their drive to Beeville to take on Coastal Bend, but they were anything but flat in the game. They built a 50-11 halftime lead on their way to a 104-38 Region XIV Conference rout.

The Lady Cardinals hit 16 three-pointers in the win, which improved them to 19-5 overall. Nine of the treys belonged to Emani Jenkins, who fired in 34 points.

The news got even better for the Lady Cardinals in the form of an 80-75 Blinn win against Angelina, pulling the Lady Cardinals into a share of the conference lead. The Lady Cardinals and Angeline a sitting atop the league with 9-3 marks. The Lady Cardinals are attempting to win/share their 31st conference championship in the last 33 seasons.

Also scoring in double figures against Coastal Bend for the Lady Cardinals were Lydie Mwamba with 19, April Edwards and Kynnedi Davis with 13 each and Kierra Sanderlin 12.

Coastal Bend fell to 7-17 and 3-8 with the loss.

The Lady Cardinals, who have won six straight, are scheduled to be at home Saturday against Panola (13-11, 6-5) in a 2 p.m. start. The Lady Cardinals were a 69-56 winner against Panola last month in Carthage.
