GETTING IT DONE: No. 10 Lady Cardinals top Panola

The 10th-ranked Lady Cardinals used a 12-0 run in the opening three minutes of the second quarter to pull away from the Panola College Fillies for a 69-56 win Wednesday night in Carthage.

By the time the Fillies finally ended the run at the 6:01 mark, the Lady Cardinals, who had been up 15-14 after one quarter, were in a commanding 27-14 lead. They went on to lead by as much as 20. The Fillies got within 13, 37-24, by halftime. The second half was a 32-32 standoff.

The win raised the Lady Cardinals, who have the rest of week off, to 13-4 on the season and 3-2 in Region XIV Conference. Panola slipped to 7-9 and 1-3.

Lydie Mwamba, the NJCAA DI Player of the Week with a 32.5 scoring average in two games last week, picked up where she left off. The 5-11 sophomore pumped in 30 points to lead the Lady Cardinals.

Also scoring in double figures were Breanna Baxter and Kennedi Johnson with 10 each.

In Wednesday's other conference games, it was: Blinn 77, Coastal Bend 41; Angelina 72, Tyler 57 and Kilgore 72, Paris 52.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Wednesday, Jan. 31, at home against Kilgore (10-8, 3-1) in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
