HIGH OCTANE: Lady Cardinals romp past Angelina

The Lady Cardinals lived up to their No. 2 NJCAA ranking Wednesday night, rolling to an 83-61 win against Angelina in a game watched by a national audience on ESPN+.

With their sixth straight win, the Lady Cardinals upped their season record to 17-1 and Region XIV Conference mark to 4-0. Angelina dropped to 10-7 and 3-2 records.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be a home again Saturday, playing Panola at 2 p.m.

Angelina managed to say within striking distance in the game's opening five minutes. The Lady Roadrunners were within eight, 12-4 at the 4:51 mark. After that it was all Lady Cardinals, who were up 41-21 with 4:20 remaining in the second quarter. They led 47-29 at the half.

Abby Cater led the Lady Cardinals 16 points, 15 of which were in the first half.

Cater was joined in double figures by Lafaedria Green with 14 and Briana Peguero 10. Peguero hit three three-pointers.

Ashanti Barnes and Mimi McCollister finished with nine points each.
