27 AND COUNTING: Lady Cards headed back to national tournament

The Lady Cards are headed to the NJCAA D1 WBB Tournament for the 27th time and a 15th straight year.

After falling 85-74 to Blinn in the Region XIV championship game Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, the Lady Cards (25-6) received one of eight-large berths in the tournament, which is scheduled March 16-21 on the campus of Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock.

The Lady Cards are scheduled to open the 24-team event against No. 22-seeded Walters State  (19-6) at noon Thursday, March 17.

Against Blinn (28-4), the Lady Cards fell into a 21-5 hole in the first quarter. They battled back to get within seven, 49-42, by halftime and tied the score at 54-54 with 3:03 left in the third quarter. Blinn was up 67-57 going into the fourth quarter.

Abby Cater tossed in 23 points to lead the Lady Cards.

Niyah Page had 14 for the Lady Cards and Kaila Kelley added 13.

Blinn hit 10-of-15 three-pointers, knocking down 7-of-11 in the first half. The Lady Cards were 7-of-19.

At the free throw line, the Lady Cards were 15-of-30. Blinn was 25-of-36.
