DOUBLE DIP: Cardinals take two from Tyler

The 15th-ranked Cardinals were in a no-nonsense mood in Region XIV Conference softball action Friday afternoon against Tyler Junior College.

The Cardinals ran their season record to 30-10 with a pair of 11-3 wins in the road doubleheader. Coach Maria Winn-Ratliff's squad is now 9-1 in conference.

The Cardinals are scheduled to be back in action on the road Wednesday, going to Paris for games at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Eighth-ranked Paris is 31-5 and 9-1.

 Here is a recap of Friday's games, both of which went just five innings.

 Game 1

TVCC 11, Tyler 3

(5 innings)

The Cardinals combined for seven runs in the third and fourth innings to fuel their run-rule-shortened win in the first game. They had 10 hits.

Addison Wittram was the top producer at the plate, going 3-for-3 and driving in five runs and scoring twice.

Also collecting multiple hits with two each were Mariah DeBose, Kiara Wiedenhaupt and Alizah Fields. Wiedenhaupt had a home run and four RBI.

Karli Glaze also had a home run.

Nicole Stuhr took the win in the circle, working three and-a-third innings. She gave up three hits and struck out one.

Game 2

TVCC 11, Tyler 3

(5 innings)

It was all over after the Lady Cardinals raced seven runs across the plate in the top of the first inning. Tyler never recovered.

The Lady Cardinals had 11 hits, led by Destiny Menchaca, DeBose, Wiedenhaupt and Glaze with two each.

Menchaca carried the big stick with a home run. She drove in four runs and scored two, as did Wiedenhaput, Glaze and Wittram. Glaze had a double.

Mirana Pena was the winner in the circle. She went the distance, fanning three and surrendering two hits.
