BACK ON STRIDE: Cardinals sweep Western Texas

The Cardinal softball team was back in stride Friday afternoon at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park, sweeping Western Texas. The Cardinals took a 6-2 win in Game 1 and were an 8-0 winner in five innings in the second.

The sweep lifted the Lady Cardinals to a 14-6 season record.

The Cardinals are scheduled to be back in action Wednesday on the road against San Jacinto. Doubleheader action begins at 3  p.m.

Here's a recap of Friday's games:

GAME 1

Cardinals 6, Western Texas 2

Playing error-free defense, the Cardinals used a 10-hit attack to breeze into the win column.

Addison Wittram, Allison Garcia and Mariah DeBose had two hits each to lead the plate effort. Garcia belted a home run. Destiny Menchaca, Wittram and DeBose each had a double and DeBose also slammed a triple.

Alessandra Borjas was the winning pitcher. She struck out six and give up three hits in five innings.

GAME 2

Cardinals 8, Western Texas 0

(5 innings)

The Cardinals played another error-free game and smacked nine hits to complete the sweep. They scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kiara Wiedenhaupt and Wittram had three hits each. Wittram, who had a double, drove in three runs.

Krystal Anne Castenada also had a double.

Nicole Stuhr picked up the win in the circle. She gave up four hits and struck out three.
