BLANKETY-BLANK: Cardinals record two shutouts

The Cardinal softball team was in a non-giving Valentine's Day mood Wednesday in doubleheader action against Hill College at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park.

Sophomore pitchers Nicole Stuhr and Alessandra Borjas tossed shutouts as the Cardinals improved to 10-2 on the season with a 3-0 win in Game 1 and 8-0 triumph in five innings in the second game.

The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Saturday in Waco. They play Howard at 3 p.m. and McClennan at 5:30 p.m.

GAME 1

Cardinals 3, Hill 0

Stuhr went the distance in the circle. She gave up three hits and struck out five.

The Cardinals collected six hits, led by Karli Glaze and Jaeden Burnham with two each. Glaze had a solo home run.

Kiara Wiedenhaupt belted a double.

GAME 2

Cardinals 8, Hill 9

(5 innings)

A seven-run third inning resulted in a run-rule-shortened game.

Borjas worked all five innings in the circle, giving up just two hits and fanning four.

Burnham went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

Alizah Fields also had two hits with a double and single.

Wiedenhaupt had a double, giving her two for the doubleheader. She drove in two runs in the game.

The Cardinals had nine hits.
