BROOM WORK: Cardinals sweep Vernon -- again

The Cardinals completed another sweep of Vernon College again Monday afternoon, going on the road to capture 10-4 and 10-2 wins.

Their second sweep of Vernon in three days improved the Cardinals to 6-0 on the season.

The Cardinals are scheduled to head east for Louisiana for a pair of doubleheaders against LSU-Eunice to end the week. Friday's twinbill is set to start at 4 p.m.. Saturday, things get going at 1 p.m.

Here's a recap of Monday's action:

GAME 1

Cardinals 10, Vernon 4

A 14-hit attack and eight-run second inning was the storyline for the Cardinals in the first game.

Abby Hollingsworth and Karli Glaze had three hits to lead the Cardinals. Hollingsworth drove in three runs and scored a pair.

Getting two hits each were Addison Wittram, Kiara Wiedenhaupt and Alizah Fields. Wittram and Wiedenhaut each had a double and drove in two runs.

Mikayla Marrujo, pitching in relief of Nicole Stuhr, went four and-two-third innings to pick up the win in the circle. She gave up two hits and struck out six.

GAME 2

Cardinals 10, Vernon 2

The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back.

Mariah DeBose, Allison Garcia, Destiny Menchaca, Wittram and Hollingsworth had two hits each to lead an 11-hit attack. DeBose had a triple and Wittram a double. Menchaca drove in three runs.

Alessandra Borjas was the winning pitcher, working three and-a-third innings in the five-inning game. She gave up five hits and fanned four.
