HIGH HONOR: Seven Cardinals named scholar All-Americans

Seven Cardinal softball players have been named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Freshman Josey Sumpter, one of the Cardinal leaders on the field, also led the way in the classroom with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Also honored were sophomore Roxsanna Segura (3.8 GPA), sophomore Destiny Hernandez (3.78 GPA), freshman Karley Erickson (3.76 GPA), freshman Reilly Lawrence (3.69 GPA), freshman Amber Karnes (3.61) and freshman Hailey Avalos (3.5 GPA).

"We are very proud of these remarkable young ladies," said TVCC co-head softball coach Kathleen Rodriguez. "They took care of business in the classroom and on the field and those are the type athletes we want in our program."

As a team, the Cardinals posted a 3.29 GPA.

In 2018, the Cardinals had nine players recognized for classroom excellence. Honored were Shelby Craig, Alexandra Holm, Alyssa Berlanga, Annelise Corona, Brianna Kinard, Claudia Santana, Hannah Scullion, Kimberly Abundis and Mikayla De Los Santos.
