A FIRST: Cardinals record first win in school history

The Cardinal soccer team was in the history-making business Saturday afternoon at The Pit.

In a scoreless game with 10 minutes left to play in 106-degree heat against Cedar Valley College, the Cardinals reached deep and found a way to score three goals in the remaining time to score a 3-0 win, which represents the first "official" win in school history. The Cardinals received a win via a forfeit in their inaugural season in 2021.

The Cardinals scored their first goal at the 82.24 mark. It proved to the only one they would need, though they did tack on two more for good measure.

"The men overcame a great hurdle by achieving the program's first win," third-year coach Antonio Ledesma said. "All this couldn't have been done without the work from our initial group of guys and girls that have moved on but helped initiate the program. Their many struggles made it that much a sweeter victory.

The Cardinals (1-1) have the week off. Their next outing is Friday, Sept. 1 on the road against Southmost.

In the women's game, Cedar Valley was a 4-0 winner against the Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Cardinals (0-2) are scheduled to be on the road Tuesday against North Lake at 6 p.m.
