Interested in being a Cardinal cheer squad member?
Vontae Johnson, co-head coach of the defending NCA champion and 12-time champion team noted the following requirements that would be beneficial for potential squad members to possess:
Elite flyers (fulls or better): Flyers with at least standing 2 to full and running fulls. That can also stunt on a variety of guys but can also mid layer and basket.
Tumbling mid layers: Minimum running trick to fulls (bounder pass preferred); minimum one to full standing full preferred.
Elite Tumbler Guys: People in this category should be able to do minimum standing 2 to full punch full. Specialty pass through to full punch full.
Elite Stunter Guys (no full): If you can do rewinds, full ups, front and bhs ups with a variety of sizes of girls - then you can make one of these spots and not need much tumbling.
All around guys (Large Coed): These guys would need to be able to do a little of everything. Running fulls, solid toss 1 arm skills, jumps to full, and at least familiar with elite level stunts.
Side/Main/Back (no full): Extremely strong bases, able to one man stunt with any size flyer and bottom layer pyramid.
Side/Main/Back (fulls or better): Minimum or running full and standing 2 to full. Versatility in basing.
Elite Female Tumblers: Trick to full and standing full minimum. Basing/Flying optional
All around guys (Small Coed): These guys would need to be able to do a little of everything. Running fulls, solid toss skills, jumps to full, and at least familiar with elite level stunts. Knowledge of side, main and back in a group stunt.
"These are things we look for in athletes but does not mean that you have to have these skills," Johnson said.
