SIMPLY GRAND: Cheerleaders claim 10th NCA title

The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinal Cheerleaders did grand things in Florida.

By the time the time the sun set Friday in Daytona Beach, Cardinal cheerleaders had not only captured the college's 10th cheerleading national title and 20th overall but a grand championship as well, representing the highest score in the finals for all divisions.

Coach Khris Franklin's squad returned the college to the top of the NCA Collegiate National Championship world for the first time since 2008. Cardinal cheerleaders had previously won titles in 1989,'90,'91,'93,'96, 2001,'02,'05 and '08.

Cardinal cheerleaders competed in the Coed Cheer Division II.

Following a first day score of 97.98, the Cardinals were sitting in first place after the preliminary round Thursday.

TVCC finished with a score of 98.50, while Navarro was second with a score of 97.55.

Navarro was sitting in second place after the prelims with a score of 94.53.

Young Harris College finished third with Lindenwood University in fourth.

Columbus State University was fifth followed by Tarleton State University, San Francisco State University and Garden City Community College.
