WELCOME TO THE VALLEY: Women's soccer program adds four

The 2024 Lady Cardinal soccer team is taking shape.

First-year head coach Jimmy Elder, who has five NJCAA D3 championships to his credit, has announced the addition of four signees, all of whom will report this summer.

The Lady Cardinals were a regional tournament qualifier for the first time in their three-year history last season.

The newest Lady Cardinals are Natalia (Lia) Castaneda, Cameron "Fizz" Hutton, Ellie Pace and Jahdira Torres.

NATALIA (LIA) CASTANEDA

5-5, Striker/Winger

Arlington, TX

Castaneda is no stranger to success.

In helping Arlington High School to three bi-district championships in her varsity career, she was also highly awarded. Castaneda, a four-time all-district selection, was the Newcomer of the Year in 2020 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2024. She was named the team's top offensive player in 2024 and the team's Most Valuable Player her junior and senior seasons.

She was also named academic all-state as a senior.

"I chose TVCC because of how welcoming the coaches were and their unwavering confidence in me as a player," Castaneda said. "I love the support system TVCC offers to its athletes, and the way the town is involved in the school.

"I am super excited to attend and compete at TVCC, because it is starting a new chapter in my athletic career. I am looking forward to meeting new people and being able to push my skills to get better against high-level competition."

"We are excited to have Lia for the fall of '24," Elder said. "She brings speed, goal-scoring ability and comes from the great DFW soccer community."

CAMERON "FIZZ" HUTTON

5-6, Midfielder

Lytle, TX

The route Hutton has taken to become a collegiate athlete may have been non-traditional, but it has not stopped her.

She did not play soccer at Lytle High School, where she was awarded all-academic honors all four years. That landed her at Dallas Christian College and now at TVCC.

"I was given another chance to do what I love and start fresh with a great coaching staff and even better community that backs our team and does everything to help us succeed," Hutton said of her decision to transfer to TVCC. "I'm ready to prove a lot of people wrong and be a part of the women's program that all teams in the conference have to prepare for.

"I am excited to play in the fall with this team and earn a ring. I want to grow as a leader and learn from the best. I'm ready to compete in a competitive environment and be coached by the best in the game."

"Fizz is a superstar on and off the field," Elder said. "She is a great young lady with the heart of a lion. I can't wait to watch her play in a Cardinal uniform."

ELLIE PACE

5-4, Forward/Winger

London, England

Known for the great passion she has for the game; Pace brings international experience to the Lady Cardinal program.

Having played at Next Generation Pro Futbol Academy, she earned Player of the Season honors.

"I chose TVCC because the program is amazing both academically and athletically," Pace said. "I want to improve as time goes on, which I feel can be done here with Coach Elder and Coach (Brittni) Anthony giving me their constant support and holding me accountable.

"I am most excited about attending my first training session, preparing for our first match and competing to win."

"We are excited to have Ellie join our Cardinal Nation women's soccer team," Elder said. "Ellie brings with her British football passion, know how and great attacking skills."

JAHDIRA TORRES

5-4, Forward

Dallas, TX

Torres will join the Lady Cardinals after an award-filled senior year at North Mesquite High School.

In the 2023-24 school year, she earned academic all-state honors and was named first-team all-district on the pitch. She was also president of the National Honor Society and a Top 10 graduate.

Pace and her teammates also captured district, bi-district and area championships.

"I am confident TVCC will help me learn new skills and enhance my career," Torres said.

"I am so excited to soon be a Cardinal and make new friends. It will be a privilege to represent the school. I am grateful for this opportunity."

"Jahdira is an amazing young soccer player that we discovered," Elder said. "We are excited to get started with her this summer."
