WINNING DEBUT: No. 7 Lady Cards drill Kilgore, 85-67

The seventh-ranked Lady Cards overcame a sluggish start on the road Saturday afternoon and went on to make Precious Ivy an 85-67 winner against Kilgore College in her head coaching debut.

The win saw the Lady Cards raise their season record to 16-1. They are 5-0 in Region XIV Conference and tied with No. 5 Tyler atop the standings. Kilgore, which fell 80-50 to the Lady Cards in a non-conference clash in the WNIT at Midland in November, fell to 13-4 and 2-3.

The Lady Cards are scheduled to be on the road again Wednesday, facing Paris (6-9, 3-2) in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. They return home Saturday to take on Coastal Bend in a 2 p.m. tipoff.

Kilgore led 17-11 after one quarter and was up 34-31 at halftime. The Lady Cards tied the score at 40-40 at the 6:18 mark and took their first lead just over a minute later. They went on to take a 59-53 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Curtessia Dean pumped in 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Cards. She hit four three-pointers.

Also scoring in double figures were Asia Strong with 18, 12 of which were in the second half, Tiya Douglas with 17 and Kaye Clark with 13. Douglas had five three-pointers.

The Lady Cards outscored Kilgore 54-33 in the second half and won big despite missing 16 free throws and turning the ball over 20 times.
