SIZZLING START: No. 3 Lady Cards roll in opener

Talk about showing off.

The No. 3-ranked Lady Cards used a 74-point first half to fuel a 129-55 win against Southern University-Shreveport in season-opening action Monday night at Cardinal Gym.

The Lady Cards put 38 points on the scoreboard in the opening en route to the blowout. They followed that with 36 points in the second quarter for a 74-31 halftime lead.

Asia Strong, in her Lady Card debut, fired in 32 points to lead the way for Coach Gerald Ewing's squad. Curtessia Dean, who got off to a slow start, finished with 26, including three three-pointers.

Also scoring in double figures were Mekayla Furman with 17 and Lojong Gore 15.

Ti'Niya Jackson netted nine for the Lady Cards, followed by Tiya Dougas, Solmilena Herrera and Kaye Clark with eight each and Taiyanna Jackson six.

The Lady Cards are scheduled to return to action in classic action Friday and Saturday at Grayson College. They play Labette at 3:30 p.m. Friday and New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. New Mexico is ranked No. 4 and coming off a 91-54 win against No. 10 Tyler.

The next home game for the Lady Cards is Wednesday, Nov. 13 vs. ETBU JV at 5:30 p.m.
