Email: tony.segovia@tvcc.edu

Tony Segovia is in his first year with the Cardinals, having joined the program as an assistant coach in August.

Though new to the Cardinal program, he is certainly no stranger to the game. Segovia brings with him a wealth of head coaching experience and more than 500 career wins. His overall record as a head coach is 550-273. His career conference record is 249-72.

Segovia graduated from McPherson College in 2000, promptly getting his coaching start as an assistant for the Bulldog softball program. He served in that role for four seasons before Friends University gave him his first head coaching position. He spent 14 seasons at the helm of the Falcon softball program before returning to McPherson College in 2019 as the Bulldogs’ head coach.

During his tenure with the Falcons, Segovia posted a 454-212 overall record and was 197-50 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play. He led Friends to seven conference titles and six KCAC tournament titles and was named KCAC Coach of the Year in each of those seasons. His Falcon teams advanced to the NAIA National Tournament six times, and he was named Region IV Coach of the year in 2008.

His teams at Friends also excelled in the classroom, averaging a 3.4 GPA in his tenure.

From 2018 to 2022 he returned home to McPherson College where he led his alma mater to an impressive 96-61 overall and 52-22 in KCAC games. In 2019, the Bulldogs finished the year as the KCAC regular season co-champions, and Segovia picked up his eighth Coach of the Year Award.

Just before COVID shut down the 2020 spring season, Coach Segovia picked up his 500th career win when the Bulldogs came from behind to defeat William Woods 8-4, in what would end up being the final game of the 2020 season.

Segovia’s McPherson teams averaged a 3.4 or better GPA.

In 2022, he retired from head coaching.

His wife Melissa teaches middle school science and coaches volleyball at McPherson High School. They have one fur baby named Acee.
