Finally … they played!

After two weeks of weather canceling games, the Cardinals were back in action Saturday afternoon at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park. They rolled to a doubleheader sweep of UTSA-JV, 16-0 and 11-0.

Weather didn't go unbeaten on the weekend, though, wiping out a scheduled doubleheader Sunday.

The win improved the Cardinals to 7-2 on the season going into a doubleheader Tuesday on the road against Texas College. Action starts at 1 p.m.

In Game 1 Saturday, the Cardinals used an eight-hit attack, getting one hit from eight different players. Reilly Lawrence, Roxsanna Segura and Josey Sumpter each had a double.

Sumpter drove in three runs and Claudia Santana and Segura two each.

Emily Rader picked up the win in the circle, giving up one hit and striking out eight.

In Game 2, Angela Ramirez tossed a no-hitter, striking out eight.

Kristina Sanchez went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a triple, to lead an 11-hit effort. Hailey Avaolos had two hits. Sanchez drove in four runs.

Sumpter and Santana belted home runs. Santana's yard shot drove in three runs.

The Cardinals are scheduled to participate in the annual Region XIV Crossover Tournament this weekend in Longview. Here is the game schedule:
