GREAT ESCAPE: Cardinals steal one from Navarro, 77-75

The Cardinals continue to refuse to quit.

With 6.5 seconds left Wednesday night against Navarro, they trailed 75-74. Navarro, playing in front of an energized home crowd, had the ball in the backcourt.

No problem.

The Cardinals came up with a steal and Anderson Mirambeaux converted it into a layup and 77-75 lead with 2.9 seconds remaining. Navarro managed a desperation half-court shot at the buzzer that was off the mark and that's the way it ended.

With the win, the Cardinals raised their season record to 17-12 and improved the likely seeding in the upcoming Region XIV Tournament, improving to 10-8 with one game left.

The Cardinals are scheduled to close the regular season at home Saturday against Paris (9-19, 3-15). Game time is 4 p.m.

Mirambeaux, the Cardinals' big man, had a big game. He had a team-high 25 points, hitting 10-of-19 shots. He also had a team-high 13 rebounds.

Dashawn Davis finished with 16 and Tydan Archibald 14, including four of the Cardinals' six three-pointers. Davis had six assists.

Navarro led 39-34 at the half.

The win was the Cardinals' 12th against Navarro in the last 13 meetings.
