Cardinals Beat Two Top 20 Teams to Open Season

The 15th-ranked Cardinals had a Jolly time in the East/West Challenge this weekend in Lewisville.

Saturday, they took care of No. 7 Odessa in 84-80 fashion. Odessa is coached by former Cardinal head coach Kris Baumann.

Sunday, they outlasted No. 16 MSU-West Plains in overtime, winning 87-72. The score was tied 73-73 at the end of regulation.

Baylor transfer Tyson Jolly had a huge weekend for the Cardinals. He averaged 36.5 – yes, 35.6 – points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the two games. Against MSU-West Plains, he poured in 45 points.  

The Cardinals (3-0) are scheduled to return to action Friday and Saturday in the annual Lewis Orr Classic at Navarro College. They play Fort Hood at 5 p.m. Friday and North American at 1 p.m. Saturday.
