When it comes to producing the Defensive Player of the Year in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, the Cardinals do it better than anyone else.
Sophomore linebacker Race Moser has been named the recipient of the honor for the 2019 season, making him the sixth Cardinal in nine seasons to receive the award. The previous others were Tevan McAdams (2018), DaQuan Patton (2016), Cortney Finney (2014), Jhaustin Thomas (2013) and Jermaine Longino (2011)
Moser, a 6-1, 233-pounder out of Deer Park High School, had 119 tackles (49 solos, 70 assists) and was the nation's third-leading tackler. He was second in assists and fourth in tackles per game (11.9).
He also had a sack and recovered three fumbles, one resulting in a touchdown.
Moser was also named first-team all-conference.
Joining Moser on the first team were Eddie Godina (K), Cody Davis (DL), Cedrick Williams (DB), Makai Hart (OL) and Brandon Coleman (OL).
Named to the second team were Derrick Ray (DL) and Joren Dickey (LB).
Receiving honorable mention were Kyle Wakefield (TE), Kameren Williams (OL), Ayden Sharp (OL), Jeremy Hunt (QB), Nate Davis (RB), Keshawn Jackson (DL), Christian Owens (DL), Jaiden Dockery (LB), Marques Williams (DB), Elhadji Diop (DB) and Godina (P).
