ON THE CALL: Flowers returning to broadcast Cardinal games

A familiar voice is returning to the radio to provide play-by-play for football at Trinity Valley Community College.

Rich Flowers will again be behind the mic when the Cardinals kick off the 2019 season at home Saturday, Aug. 31, KCKL 95.9 FM station manager Chris Quinn announced today.

"It's a great day for our station and TVCC to have a broadcast veteran the caliber of Rich join our team again," Quinn said. "Our listeners and Cardinal fans will be well served by the professionalism and knowledge he brings to a broadcast."

Flowers has been on the editorial staff at the Athens Daily Review in various positions since October 2006. He will remain with the publication.

Prior to joining the Review, Flowers had served as news/sports director at KCKL since May 1991.

During his KCKL tenure, he was the voice of Cardinal football, including having called the 1994 and 1997 NJCAA championship games.

"I am looking forward to getting back into the broadcast booth," Flowers said. "The conference plays an exciting brand of football and TVCC always puts a good product on the field."

Flowers began his radio career in 1976 at KSEY in Seymour. His broadcasting career also took him to other stops in Texas, as well as Oklahoma. With the exception of a couple of seasons, he has broadcast football since then.

"It goes without saying we are pleased to have Rich involved again with Cardinal football broadcasts," TVCC sports information officer Benny Rogers said. "I have had both the privilege of listening to and working with him through the years and he is a pro in every sense of the word. He also understands the importance of not getting in the way of the game as a broadcaster."
