The No. 8-ranked Trinity Valley Cardinals bounced back with the third highest scoring performance in Cardinal football history.

The Cardinals (4-1) beat Arkansas Baptist College, 82-6, in non-conference play  on Family Day Saturday at Bruce Field.

Trinity Valley is scheduled to leave Friday for a long haul to Roswell, N.M. for a 3 p.m. game Saturday against New Mexico Military Institute.

The Cardinals carry a 2-1 conference mark into the contest.

TVCC put together 741 yards of total offense as quarterback's Jaylon Henderson and Colton Atkinson combined to go 30 of 34 for 446 yards passing.

Henderson was 14 of 16 for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while Atkinson was 16 of 18 for 221 yards and one touchdown.

The Cardinals opened the scoring with 28 unanswered as Khalil Banks scored on a five-yard run with 9:10 remaining in the first.

Banks then had a 13-yard reception from Henderson for the second score with 4:29 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Cardinals added to the lead with 2:08 remaining in the opening period as Bryce Cook recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone.

Atkinson then scored with 14:54 remaining in the opening half on a seven yard run for the 28-0 lead.

The only score by the Buffaloes came with 14:41 remaining on a 100-yard kickoff return by Taurean Grady. The Buffaloes fumbled the snap for the 28-6 deficit.

TVCC then had a 30-yard reception from Henderson to Josh Hodges with 14:03 remaining in the first half.

Banks added another touchdown with 5:12 remaining on a one-yard run for the 42-6 lead.

Angel Sevier wrapped up the first half scoring with a 21-yard field goal for the 45-6 lead.

In the second half, TVCC had three touchdowns from Peytton Pickett on runs of 1, 1 and eight yards. Aphonso Thomas had a five yard touchdown run, Tyri'k Barnes had a 10-yard reception from Atkinson and Sevier had a 36-yard field goal.

Thomas led the Cardinal rushing attack with 17 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown.

Atkinson had eight carries for 76 yards and one touchdown in his Cardinals debut.

Pickett had 11 carries for 56 yards and three touchdowns, Banks had six carries for 29 yards and two touchdowns.

Henderson had two carries for 12 yards.

The Cardinals had 15 players catch passes in the victory over Arkansas Baptist.

They were led by Brayten Kubecka with two catches for 86 yards.

Jack Lechman, Jamir Williams and Sean Milligan led the team with five tackles. Williams had two sacks.

The Cardinals are open the following week and return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 at home against Tyler at 3 p.m.
